Friends!
I’m doing an upcoming story on surviving the holidays with a baby.
If any of you have babies, or have, you know, former babies, I’d love your advice. (And if so, may I quote you, with first and last names, but no profession or ages?)
We’re looking for advice strictly about babies, not older kids, and in particular the areas below. Will you e mail me if any strike your fancy? And THANK YOU.
How do you make plane travel with a baby more bearable? Train travel? Car travel?
What do you do when grandpa or grandma wants to feed the baby some festive chocolate cake, or, as my father once suggested, ‘have her suck on a french fry?’
How do you deal with having older cousins around the baby?
What do you do about naps?
How about bedtimes, which can be disrupted?
How do you loosen up, so that you’re not uptight that the baby isn’t doing everything according to his or her normal schedule?
What are some baby-friendly holiday activities that have worked for you?
How do you scale down your holiday expectations so that you, and the baby, have fun? (maybe you cut down on taking the baby to a hundred different houses for visits, that type of thing?)
What if you’re nursing? How do you make that work during holiday gatherings?
How do you baby proof a house (without being crazily demanding) if you’re going to another person’s house for the holidays?
And of course I would welcome any other strategies that have worked for you.
That’s about it! Again, many thanks. I love talking about this stuff and I'm hoping other parents will, too.
