A Message from Julie

Ahem…hello, is this thing on?

Jancee asked me to write a little thing for her website to go with the photo of me badly needing a haircut, unless someone mercifully photo-shopped the ends of my hair. To say I'm conflicted about writing this is an understatement. If you've read her book, you already know the best things about me and anything I say here will just shatter the illusions, remind you that I am but a human...just like you. BUT as the lucky lucky gal who can call herself Jancee's best friend, I will try to fill some space with something that will be nowhere near as entertaining as her book. (Humble head bow)

First of all (Jancee would hate a line that started ‘first of all,’ she is going to blow a gasket when she sees my punctuation. She's a real Strunk and White girl, so if, I, punctuate, this “badly” -it's just to make her head spin a little.) isn't ‘But Enough About Me’ wonderful? I know! Me too! I read it twice on my computer. (It was a lot of pages to print out on my tired little laserjet). The first time was a search for “Julie” to read all the parts about me, the second was to devour an almost disturbingly amazing book. First impression: ‘Man, she makes me sound like a good friend…’ but more than that, I thought I came across sounding fat, because of the line about my matronly Eileen Fisher outfit. In fact, I emailed her after the initial kudos and said, “Do you think I sound fat?” Great friend that Jancee is, she combed through the text and pointed out that she compared my looks to people in a Ralph Lauren ad and everyone knows, even the Golden Retreivers in the Ralph Lauren ads are svelte.

The second thing I thought was, “How Can I Capitalize On This?” Should I do a Kramer-type of tour, taking people on a bus of the places Jancee and I frequented? (It would be a short ride - her apartment, my apartment, and Saks…. and maybe a few other stores…. And places that sell donuts… and cupcakes… and cookies. MMMmmmm, donuts.) There I go sounding fat again.

Just finished the book and LOVED IT! Being the music trivia go to girl (calls at all hours... who is this band? what song is this?)It is as though you lived the life I could only dream of. I laughed I cried and had a fun time through it all. Thanks for the great read.

Uhm, am I a huge dork for actually reading the book on the beach? I loved the writing style, the story, everything. I also did feel a bit superior in my literary selection when I saw everyone else was reading Oprah Book club-esque choices. Fools!

I am commenting on the Julie page because she was my favorite part of the book. She was/is one of the nicest people I ever knew in "the industry."

My husband was given this book by someone at work who said, "you have to read this!" After he started reading one night,he asked me, do you remember a Mr Dunn from the Penney store in Wayne? Me (a Penney person for 24+ years, East Brunswick NJ store) said, of course I remember Mr. Dunn!. This book had me laughing out loud, where my 14 year old daughter looked at me and asked, what was wrong with me. I loved the stories about your interviews, but I have to say your memories of JCP had me cracking up! I used to love to eat at the restaurant in the Wayne store too! Tell your Dad I remember him at District Meetings which were always held at his store. He will know Bill Senn who I spent the earliest part of my management career with. Thanks again for the great memories!

I just finished the book last night and can honestly say you had my dream job. I loved all your stories both personal and professional and all the way through I kept thinking that "this is the kind of person you want to hang out with." I love everything music and my office at work seems like a revolving door as co-workers stop by with their music questions. As I got toward the end of the book, I was amused by how much I had it common with you. I think Stevie Nicks is one of the coolest women in rock and roll and anytime "Coal Miner's Daughter" is on TV, but butt is on the couch for the whole movie. But when I got to your acknowledgments page and saw that you had chosen Frost's "The Road Less Traveled" my jaw dropped open. Those are the words I have lived by for so many years. I have the poem hanging in my office. Thanks for letting others live vicariously through you. If you are ever in the Kansas City area I would be honored to hang out with you.

I have read almost every celebrity autobiography and this book is by far the best written and funniest non-fiction book that I've ever read. If they hire Jancee as Creative Director/Head Writer for Lisa Kudrow's TV production, they are guaranteed a hit! I've told so many others (including my oldest daughter who will be enrolling in Journalism at University next year) about how good this book is. I can't wait until Jancee releases her next book. Keep writing Jancee!!!!

I'm in the middle of 'But Enough About me...' and it's GREAT! What a writer! A book rarely makes me chuckle, never mind laugh out loud, but this one does. It's witty, hysterical in parts, fascinating in others, and the writing is superb.

I can't wait to read Jancee's new book.
